Ashtanga Monkey Academy (AMA) is a school of yoga which was established in its early form in January 2nd, 2007. In the past ten years the school has gone through a full circle (Body&Mind studio - Ashtanga Yoga Tallinn - Ashtanga Yoga School of Tallinn - Ashtanga Monkey Academy) and the founders, Terje and Jocke Salokorpi, are happy to be back in their roots. Ashtanga Monkey Academy, like the name implies, is a yoga school that doesn't take yoga too seriously.

​We know from our own experience that yoga is a great tool to be used for health, happiness and self discovery and this is what we are happy to share with you. We also think that yoga is just one part of life, even if it's quite an important one for us. The world is full of great teachers and not just in the yoga systems. Classes
Terje and Jocke teaches ashtanga yoga (with a twist) in their morning and lunch classes, in the school in Tallinn. Teaching "with a twist" means that compared to the way they have been teaching for a long time, it is a little different. They respect the system and their teachers, but they bend the "rules". Become a monkey yourself
Our goal in Ashtanga Monkey Academy is to share a slightly more relaxed message about yoga with the world, to help people find joy in their practice and to keep an open mind. We have been educating instructors since the year 2000 and now we want to help you get started with yoga. Also for health & fitness studios
In AMA we think that yoga is a practice for everyone, no matter what your background is, or what type of a worldview you have. Terje and Jocke both have a strong background in the health and fitness industry, having had long careers as instructors, educators and managers. You can read more about the details in the about us page. As mentioned above, Terje and Jocke have gone through a full circle, meaning that they are happy to be reconnected with the industry that is not only about yoga and spirituality, but also just fun and effective training. Thoughts by Terje and jocke

This is a section where we (Terje and Jocke) will share anything we feel important to us, at any specific time. So now, we would just like to welcome you to our new website and say hi. 

The past few years have been an interesting time for us personally and by "interesting" we mean very challenging. We have met many of you in our school or some of the workshops and educations and we have gotten a sense that we are not alone. I guess many of you have had your own challenges as well. We are going to be sharing our personal struggles and successes in a video format, hopefully quite soon, but for now, we would just like to say that it feels really good to start finding ourselves again. 

If you look at that picture, next to this text (below on your mobile), you can see us. This is who we are. We have these monkeys within and these monkeys like to play. It doesn't mean that everything is a joke, but it does mean that everything can have more joy included. Yoga is a powerful tool, especially when you learn this about it. If you can smile (at least within) while you practice, your body automatically starts to open up. Positive emotions, combined with a slow, conscious breathing, has a strong effect on your nervous system,mind and heart.
